Used Compressors for Sale
Gas compressors raise pressure for storage, transport, fueling and process supply. The compression method — reciprocating, diaphragm, screw or centrifugal — determines achievable pressure, flow, and how clean the discharge stays.
Worth checking: Gas service is not interchangeable. Oxygen, hydrogen and CO2 compressors use different materials, seals and lubrication regimes.

Compressors basics
What does a gas compressor do?
It raises gas pressure for storage, transport, fueling or process supply. The method — reciprocating, diaphragm, screw or centrifugal — determines achievable pressure, flow, and how clean the discharge stays.
Why does gas service matter so much on a compressor?
Oxygen, hydrogen and CO2 compressors use different materials, seals and lubrication regimes. A compressor is not gas-agnostic, and moving one between services is often a rebuild rather than a decision.
Buying used compressors
What should I inspect on a used compressor?
Running hours and maintenance records first, then valves, cylinders, rod packing and the crankcase. Check the drive, cooling system and controls, and look for evidence of lubricant carryover where the service demands oil-free discharge. On diaphragm machines, diaphragm condition and history is the central question.
What should I ask the seller?
What gas it ran, at what suction and discharge pressures, total running hours, when it was last overhauled and what was replaced, and why it came out of service. Ask whether it was preserved for storage — an unpreserved machine that sat for years may need more than a commissioning check.
What drives cost after purchase?
Valves and packing are routine consumables. Beyond that, a change of gas service, a rebuild, and the utilities and foundation at the destination usually dominate. Confirm power supply, cooling and footprint against your site before committing — a compressor is rarely a drop-in installation.
General guidance for this equipment type. Specifications, condition and history vary by unit — ask the seller about the one you're considering.
