Truck makers and gas suppliers team up to build Europe's hydrogen truck network

September 15, 2026

At IAA Transportation in September, Volvo Group, Daimler Truck and Toyota joined Bosch and energy and infrastructure companies Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, MB Energy and TEAL Mobility in a joint push to make hydrogen-powered heavy trucks commercially viable across Europe by 2030, at prices competitive with diesel.

The plan pairs trucks with fueling. Stations are being sized to serve up to 100 trucks a day, more than 70 have been applied for under Germany's funding program, and around 800 heavy-duty hydrogen trucks have been applied for under German programs. Daimler Truck says it will put 100 next-generation fuel cell trucks on the road from the end of 2026, with hydrogen combustion engines following in 2027.

Air Liquide's part is hydrogen production, distribution and refueling infrastructure; the energy companies are scaling liquid and gaseous hydrogen supply.

What it means for equipment buyers

Every one of those stations needs high-pressure compressors, storage, dispensers — and for liquid hydrogen, cryogenic tanks, trailers and pumps. The build-out starts in Europe, but it's a clear demand signal for hydrogen fueling equipment.
