Columbus transit orders up to 45 new CNG buses
September 15, 2026
The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) has awarded New Flyer a contract for up to 45 sixty-foot Xcelsior CNG articulated buses — 12 on firm order and options for up to 33 more. The purchase is supported by the federal Low or No Emission (Low-No) grant program.
COTA already runs 102 CNG buses, serves a Columbus-area population of about 1.3 million, and carries more than 12 million trips a year. New Flyer has delivered more than 230 buses to the agency since 2000.
What it means for equipment buyers
Transit agencies keep choosing CNG, and every new bus leans on the fueling station behind it. Growing fleets mean more demand for CNG compressors, storage cascades, gas dryers and station upgrades.
