This compressor package offers a robust solution for natural gas compression and is well-suited for re-deployment in gas distribution, tube trailer loading, or facility backup systems. With relatively low run time (1,576 hours), a dependable GE motor, and updated PRV valves, this unit is an excellent choice for buyers seeking a cost-effective industrial compressor.
Questions buyers ask
What capacity and discharge pressure does it actually deliver?
This unit takes inlet at 30 PSI and discharges at 2,300 PSI. The listing does not specify SCFM capacity or compression ratio across the four stages, so ask the seller for the nameplate flow rate and stage-by-stage pressure breakdown if you need to verify it will meet your application requirements.
What drive, power and cooling does it require?
The compressor is driven by a 25 HP GE motor (Model 5KE284CC205AP, 60 Hz, 284T frame, continuous duty rating). The listing does not specify cooling method, electrical voltage, or whether this is water-cooled or air-cooled, so confirm those details with the seller before planning your installation.
What are the running hours and what has been rebuilt?
The unit shows 1,576 run hours since its 1989 commissioning and was decommissioned in 2021 after filling DOT bottles. The four Mercer PRV valves were replaced in 2019 (staged at 95, 400, 1,600, and 2,400 PSI), but the listing does not mention piston rings, valve seats, or other internal components, so request maintenance records and ask what has been serviced.
What should I inspect on a used compressor before buying?
On four-stage CNG compressors, inspect piston rings and valve seats for wear, check intercooler tube integrity, and verify interstage pressure ratios are balanced across all stages. Look for scoring in the cylinders, check the motor bearings and coupling alignment, confirm all PRV valves lift at their set points, and review oil analysis records if available to assess bearing and seal condition. If the unit has been idle since 2021, expect to replace gaskets and possibly rings before commissioning.
