Questions buyers ask

What capacity and discharge pressure does it actually deliver?

This unit is rated for 196.4 SCFM at 4500 PSIG discharge pressure with 30 PSIG suction. The intake flow rate is approximately 106 CFM (180 m³/h), and MAWP is 5300 PSI at 450°F. The listing does not specify whether these are factory nameplate ratings or field-verified performance figures, so ask the seller for recent flow and pressure test data.

What drive, power and cooling does it require?

The unit is driven by a 125 HP Siemens TEFC motor rated 460V, 145A, 1785 RPM with 1.15 service factor. It requires water cooling for the cylinders and interstage coolers; the listing does not specify required cooling water flow rate, temperature, or quality—request these from the seller along with any heat exchanger specifications. The motor is EPACT efficiency rated for continuous duty at 40°C ambient.

What are the running hours and what has been rebuilt?

The listing does not provide operating hours, maintenance records, or rebuild history. For a 2001 unit, request total run hours, compression cylinder rebuild dates, valve replacement history, piston ring condition, crankshaft bearing inspections, and any motor or control system upgrades. On reciprocating CNG compressors, valves and rings typically need attention every 4,000–8,000 hours depending on gas quality and operating pressure.

What should I inspect on a used compressor before buying?

Prioritize cylinder bore and piston ring wear, valve seat condition, crankcase oil contamination, and bearing clearances—these directly affect compression efficiency and MAWP capability. Inspect interstage cooler tubes for fouling or corrosion, verify motor insulation resistance and bearing condition, and check the control panel for proper pressure shutdown and temperature alarm function. On high-pressure CNG units, request recent hydrostatic test records for the storage banks and verify all ASME stamps are legible, as requalification for 4500 PSIG service is equipment-intensive.
