Questions buyers ask
How do I size this vaporizer for my flow rate and duty cycle?
This pair provides a combined capacity of 160,000 SCFH across eight individual 20,000 SCFH units. Ambient vaporizers are typically sized at 150–200% of peak demand to allow for fouling, derating in cold weather, and maintenance rotation; if your peak flow is in that range, request the inlet and outlet connection sizes, manifold configuration, and any flow controller or pressure regulation components included with the skids.
What happens to output in cold or humid conditions, and on continuous duty?
Ambient air vaporizers rely on natural convection and can derate significantly in continuous duty as fin surfaces cool below ambient, with further reduction in cold weather when the driving temperature differential drops. High humidity or fog accelerates frost buildup on fins, which blocks airflow and requires either automatic rotation between banks or manual defrost cycles; ask the seller whether these skids include automated switchover controls.
Can this be put into a different gas service than it previously ran?
Previous service was Nitrous Oxide or compatible cryogenic liquid gas. Changing to a different gas requires verifying material compatibility (particularly with oxygen, which demands oxygen-clean procedures and may prohibit certain seal materials), checking that the pressure rating and design temperature envelope suit the new service, and potentially re-stamping or re-certifying the pressure boundary depending on code jurisdiction—ask the seller for the original design specification sheet and any available service records.
What should I inspect on a used ambient vaporizer before buying?
Inspect fin tubes for corrosion, impact damage, and heavy scale or paint that reduces heat transfer; check all headers, connections, and welds for cracks or prior leak repairs; and verify that pressure relief devices are present and within their test interval. On units this age, also examine the skid frame for rust-through, confirm that isolation and vent valving operates freely, and request documentation of the last hydrostatic test if the unit will need recertification before service.
