Questions buyers ask
What is the current vacuum reading, and what is the NER?
The listing does not provide the current vacuum level or normal evaporation rate. Request the most recent vacuum gauge reading (typically measured in microns) and the NER in gallons or percentage per day—these are the primary indicators of insulation system integrity on any evacuated cryogenic tank and should be verified before purchase.
Is the data plate legible, and is the U-1A available?
The listing states that all engineering drawings and schematics are available but does not confirm data plate condition or U-1A form availability. Request photos of the data plate and a copy of the original U-1A (ASME Manufacturer's Data Report)—both are typically required by jurisdictional inspectors for permitting and by insurance carriers before the tank can be returned to service.
What is involved in relocating and re-commissioning it?
At 51,500 lbs and 12'6" diameter × 38'6" length, this will require heavy rigging, an extendable flatbed or multi-axle trailer, and oversize permits in most states. Re-commissioning typically involves a jurisdictional inspection, hydrostatic or pneumatic pressure test per the original code of construction, verification of vacuum integrity, recalibration of instrumentation, and installation of new rupture discs—the listing notes recertification support is available upon request.
