Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

This vessel is built to ASME code, as stated in the listing. ASME vessels are designed for stationary installation and can be used as air receivers, buffer tanks, or storage in compressed gas systems at the rated pressure, but cannot be transported filled like DOT cylinders. The vessel must remain at the installation site during operation and be registered with your jurisdiction's boiler and pressure vessel authority.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

The maximum allowable working pressure is 250 PSIG at 550 degrees Fahrenheit, with a vessel capacity of 1,060 gallons. At the full 250 PSIG MAWP, you have the entire 1,060-gallon capacity available; ASME air receivers do not derate by pressure unless you exceed the rated temperature or operate below the minimum design metal temperature of 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

The listing does not provide the last inspection date, current certification status, or remaining inspection interval. You should ask the seller for the most recent inspection report, the National Board registration number if applicable, and whether any jurisdiction-required inspections are current—most states require internal and external inspection of unfired pressure vessels on intervals ranging from one to five years depending on service and local authority.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

Verify the nameplate data matches the listing, inspect the shell and heads for corrosion, pitting, dents, or bulging, and check all connection threads and flanges for damage. Internally, look for scale buildup, rust, or evidence of liquid carryover that could indicate the vessel held something other than compressed air; on vertical air receivers, check the bottom head and drain connection carefully since condensate accumulation accelerates corrosion in that area. Confirm all required safety valves, pressure gauges, and drain valves are present and functional, and have a qualified inspector perform hydrostatic testing if there is any question about vessel integrity.
