Questions buyers ask

What flow and head is this rated for, and at what NPSH?

This unit is rated for 3 GPM at 7,500 PSI discharge pressure. The listing does not specify NPSH requirements; you'll need to request the pump curve or nameplate data from the seller, as NPSH is critical for cryogenic service to avoid cavitation and maintain seal integrity.

What service has it been in, and what were the running hours?

The skid is configured for liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen service, but the listing does not specify which fluid it actually pumped or the operating hours accumulated. Ask the seller for service history documentation and hour meter readings if available, as previous LN2 versus LOX service can affect material condition and what reconditioning may be needed.

What seals, materials and drive does it have?

The unit has a 20 HP motor with 230/460V dual voltage capability, but the listing does not specify seal type, wetted materials, or drive configuration (direct or geared). For cryogenic pumps, seal material compatibility and construction (typically PTFE or carbon with appropriate spring materials) are critical; request the pump model number and materials of construction certificate from the seller.

What should I inspect on a used pump before buying?

Inspect the pump head and piping connections for frost damage or cracking, check seal faces and springs for wear or embrittlement, and verify shaft runout is within spec. On cryogenic units, examine insulation condition, check for evidence of vacuum jacket failure if applicable, and request documentation of the last seal replacement and any thermal cycling events that could have caused stress cracking in cold-service materials.
