Questions buyers ask

What is the current vacuum reading, and what is the NER?

The listing does not provide the current vacuum reading or net evaporation rate (NER). On a 1991 cryogenic tank that has been in service, both figures are critical: vacuum degradation is the primary failure mode for these vessels, and NER tells you whether the insulation system is still performing. Request both from the seller along with the date of the most recent vacuum measurement.

Is the data plate legible, and is the U-1A available?

The listing does not confirm data plate legibility or the presence of the ASME U-1A Manufacturer's Data Report. Both are essential for ASME vessel documentation: the data plate must be readable to verify design pressure, MAWP, and serial number, and the U-1A is typically required by jurisdictions for vessel registration. Ask the seller to confirm availability of both and provide photos of the data plate.

What is involved in relocating and re-commissioning it?

The listing notes the unit is wax-sealed, which suggests winterization or mothballing but does not specify decommissioning status. Relocation requires certified rigging for the 91" × 91" × 291" footprint, purging and inerting before transport, and vacuum testing after installation to confirm insulation integrity. Re-commissioning typically includes pressure testing, safety device recertification, and often vacuum pump-down if the annular space has degraded, particularly on a vessel this age.
