Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

This is an ASME-certified skid with National Board numbers 45211, 45212, and 45213. ASME vessels are stationary storage units—they can be permanently installed at your facility but cannot be transported over public roads when pressurized, which requires DOT certification. If you need portable storage or vehicle fueling, you'll need DOT cylinders instead.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

The design pressure is 5,500 PSI. At that pressure, you can store 8,065 SCF of CNG or 6,605 SCF of nitrogen based on the 21.6 cubic foot water volume. The listing does not state the MAWP or hydro test pressure—ask the seller whether the design pressure is also the MAWP and for documentation showing the original test pressure and any retest history.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

The listing does not provide the last hydro test date, remaining certification life, or jurisdictional inspection status. ASME pressure vessels typically require internal inspection and hydrostatic testing at intervals determined by state or local jurisdiction (commonly five to ten years) and the original manufacturer's data report will specify test requirements. Ask the seller for the last test date, current inspection status, and whether the units remain in-jurisdiction or have been properly decommissioned.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

Verify all tube-to-manifold connections, isolation valves, and the skid frame for corrosion or impact damage, especially at mounting points and weld seams. Request the original U-1 forms and any previous test records, then arrange internal inspection and hydrostatic retest per your jurisdiction before pressurizing—ASME vessels previously in CNG service may have hydrogen embrittlement or stress corrosion if moisture was present. Check that all National Board numbers match the documentation and are legible on the nameplates.
