Description
Xebec model STCNG14-Autodew natural gas dryer designed to remove water vapor from compressed natural gas prior to vehicle fuel storage or use. This is a suction side, single tower, heat regenerative system rated for 150 PSI MAWP at 500F, with bypass capability for off-line servicing and an integrated dew point detector. The AutoDew feature signals when regeneration is required.

Natural gas dryers remove water vapor prior to storing or using natural gas for a vehicle fuel. High water content can cause blockage of CNG in fueling systems and can contribute to corrosion in storage vessels and piping. The need for a dryer is determined by the water content of the incoming gas and the minimum ambient temperature.
The dryer uses molecular sieve adsorbent desiccants to remove water vapor to extremely low levels. After operating for a period of time, the dryer has removed so much moisture that it requires regeneration (heat evaporation process) or replacement of the desiccant. Dryers typically include a hygrometer, which identifies when the desiccant is completely saturated.
Questions buyers ask
What pressure, flow and temperature is it rated for?
This unit is rated for 150 PSIG MAWP at 500°F, with a minimum design metal temperature (MDMT) of -20°F at 150 PSI. Flow capacity is listed as 200-500 SCFM. Note that the listing provides a wide flow range without specifying the differential pressure or inlet conditions that define the boundaries, so confirm the actual operating envelope with the seller for your application.
What gases is it compatible with, and has it been oxygen cleaned?
This dryer was designed and operated for compressed natural gas (CNG) service specifically. The listing does not indicate oxygen cleaning or oxygen service history. CNG dryers use molecular sieve desiccants and construction materials selected for hydrocarbon compatibility, which typically differ from oxygen service requirements—ask the seller for material certifications and service history if you're considering a different gas or oxygen service.
What should I inspect before putting it into service?
Check the condition and remaining capacity of the molecular sieve desiccant—saturated or degraded media won't regenerate effectively and should be replaced. Verify operation of the AutoDew dew point detector and the regeneration heater circuit, inspect the bypass valving for seat integrity, and confirm the vessel is within its CRN registration period if required in your jurisdiction. Since this is a 2002 unit that's been in storage or light use, also check for corrosion on internals, verify all temperature and pressure instrumentation is functional, and consider a hydrostatic retest if the service history is unknown.
