Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

This vessel is ASME code construction. ASME vessels are designed for stationary installation at a fixed facility and cannot be transported filled under DOT regulations. If you need a transportable cylinder for filled gas movement, you'll need a DOT-rated unit instead.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

The listing states a 2450 PSIG rating and 51.0 cubic foot capacity, but does not specify whether this is MAWP, design pressure, or working pressure, nor the temperature basis for the capacity figure. Contact the seller for the nameplate MAWP, design temperature, and whether the 51.0 CF is water volume or gas capacity at a specific pressure and temperature.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

The listing does not provide current inspection or requalification status. Ask the seller for the last ASME inspection date, the National Board number if registered, and whether current jurisdiction-required inspections are up to date. ASME vessels typically require periodic internal and external inspection per the National Board Inspection Code or local jurisdiction requirements.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

Verify the nameplate is legible and matches your service requirements, inspect all welds and the shell exterior for corrosion or mechanical damage, and check that pressure relief devices are present and within test dates. The vessel will need hydrostatic testing and internal inspection per ASME requirements before initial service at your facility, and you should confirm it's suitable for your intended gas service based on materials of construction and prior service history.
