Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

These are DOT-approved cylinders also compliant with NGV2-07 (the natural gas vehicle standard). DOT certification allows them to be used in vehicle-mounted CNG fuel systems and transported on public roads, whereas ASME vessels are typically limited to stationary installations. The NGV2-07 compliance specifically qualifies them for compressed natural gas vehicle service within the marked temperature range of -40°F to 180°F.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

The service pressure is 3600 PSIG and the total capacity is 38 GGE (gasoline gallon equivalent) across both saddlebag sets. The listing does not specify individual cylinder water capacity or total volume in cubic feet, so ask the seller for the water capacity stamped on each cylinder and whether the 38 GGE is per set or total for all four tanks.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

These cylinders were manufactured in September 2013 with an expiration date of August 2028. The label requires inspection every 36 months or 36,000 miles, but the listing does not state when the last inspection was completed or how many miles were accumulated, so confirm the inspection history and current qualification status with the seller before purchase.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

Verify the PRDs (pressure relief devices) and valves are manufacturer-approved units as required by the label, and confirm they are within their service life. On Type 3 composite cylinders, inspect the composite overwrap for impact damage, cuts, abrasion, or UV degradation, and check the aluminum liner for corrosion or dents, particularly around the necks and mounting brackets. Confirm the cylinders are still within their 36-month/36,000-mile inspection interval and verify serial numbers match the documentation for each tank in the saddlebag assemblies.
