Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

This tank is DOT-certified under FMVSS 304 and complies with NGV2-07, the industry standard for compressed natural gas vehicle fuel containers. These certifications authorize it for use as vehicle-mounted CNG storage in automotive applications, not for stationary storage or industrial gas service which would require ASME Section VIII or X.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

Service pressure is 3,600 PSI (24,821 kPa at 70°F) with an internal volume of 72 gallons. For Type IV NGV tanks, service pressure and MAWP are typically the same value, though you should confirm the exact MAWP rating from the nameplate data or request documentation from the seller if you need it for compliance records.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

Certifications are listed as valid through November and December 2035 depending on the specific tank's manufacture date. NGV2 Type IV tanks require safety inspection every 36 months or 36,000 miles per the standard, so you should verify when the last inspection was performed and obtain those records before putting these into service.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

Examine the composite overwrap for impact damage, abrasion, cuts, or delamination, particularly at the cylinder shoulders and any mounting bracket contact points. Verify the pressure relief device and valve are manufacturer-approved parts for this model, check that threads and O-ring seats are undamaged, and confirm the boss assembly shows no cracks or evidence of overtorque. Request the complete service history and last visual inspection documentation to ensure the 36-month interval hasn't lapsed.
