Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

This unit is ASME NB Division 3 compliant, designed for stationary installation at a facility. Division 3 certification is specific to high-pressure vessels and allows hydrogen storage up to the rated 15,000 PSIG in fixed industrial applications. Unlike DOT cylinders, ASME vessels are not certified for transportation over public roads.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

The listing states a pressure rating of 15,000 PSIG and a capacity of 39 gallons. ASME Division 3 vessels typically express capacity at design pressure, but you should verify with the seller whether the 39-gallon figure is at 15,000 PSIG or another reference condition, and request the nameplate data sheet for the precise MAWP and stamped volume.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

The listing does not provide current inspection or requalification status. ASME Division 3 vessels typically require periodic in-service inspection per the National Board Inspection Code or jurisdiction-specific rules, but intervals vary by operating conditions and local authority. Request documentation of the most recent internal and external inspections, hydrostatic test results, and any National Board Form R-3 records.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

Verify the nameplate is legible and matches ASME registration records, then inspect all welds, support points on the I-beam frame, and mounting hardware for cracks or corrosion. On hydrogen service vessels, pay particular attention to any signs of hydrogen embrittlement in high-stress areas, check all valves and fittings for leakage or damage, and confirm that pressure relief devices are within their service life. A hydrostatic test and internal inspection are advisable given the high design pressure and hydrogen service history.
