Questions buyers ask

Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?

This vessel is built to ASME Code, Grade J specification. ASME-rated vessels are designed for stationary installation at a fixed location and cannot be legally transported over the road when pressurized, unlike DOT cylinders which are built for transportation service.

What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?

The listing states a working pressure rating of 5500 PSIG and a capacity of 57.8 cubic feet. The listing does not specify whether this capacity is geometric volume or storage capacity at the stated working pressure, so confirm with the seller which measurement is provided and request the other if needed for your application.

What is the requalification or inspection status?

The unit is listed as new condition, but the listing does not provide details on ASME U-1 data reports, National Board registration number, or initial hydrostatic test documentation. Request the U-1 forms and verify National Board registration before purchase, as you'll need these for jurisdictional acceptance and to establish your inspection interval per the code of the installing jurisdiction.

What should I inspect before putting it into service?

For a new vessel, verify all code stamping is present and legible, confirm the U-1 manufacturer's data report matches the nameplate, and inspect all nozzles, supports, and appurtenances for shipping damage. Check that relief valve settings match your operating parameters and that all threaded connections are clean and undamaged, as cryogenic service requires leak-tight seals that can be compromised by thread galling or contamination.
