Questions buyers ask
Is this ASME or DOT rated, and what does that allow me to do with it?
These are DOT-certified Type 4 composite tanks originally installed for on-road CNG fuel service. DOT certification allows their use on highway vehicles and mobile applications, while ASME vessels are typically stationary and installed at fixed facilities. All units in this lot are confirmed DOT certified for on-road use.
What is the MAWP and capacity at service pressure?
The pressure rating is 3,600 PSIG across all tanks. Capacity varies by configuration: CNGT 101 systems are 150 gallons, CNGT 102 are 135 gallons, CNGT 104 are 120 gallons, and CNGT 108 side-mount units are 40 gallons. Individual tank capacities within each system range from 30 to 40 gallons depending on cylinder dimensions.
What is the requalification or inspection status?
All units have been visually inspected with no damage or issues reported. Manufacture dates are between 2013 and 2016, and the seller states approximately 10+ years of remaining service life based on the typical 20-year life expectancy for Type 4 composite CNG cylinders. Three-year recertification can be arranged prior to delivery; confirm current certification status and ask for documentation on the last hydrostatic or visual inspection for any units you're considering.
What should I inspect before putting it into service?
Verify the DOT certification labels are intact and legible, and check that manufacture and expiration dates meet your operating requirements. Inspect the composite overwrap for abrasion, impact damage, cuts, or UV degradation, particularly at mounting brackets and wear points. Check all valves, pressure relief devices, piping, and fittings for corrosion or damage—the listing notes some systems may have minor components missing, so confirm completeness against the documentation the seller has for each unit.
